The importance of windmills and their accompanying water tanks cannot be underestimated in Arizona, particularly where livestock is being maintained. Although horses and cattle roam freely in most of the Navajo area, without fences to hem them in, they will remain near enough to water tanks for daily drinking. I have found that throughout the Navajo area of NW Arizona, the water tanks have become the canvas of choice for artists in the area. The tanks that are not painted are REALLY far off the beaten path. I always like the surprise of seeing a windmill and accompanying art as I drive along the highways and back roads.
