Navajo National Monument is located in Fir Canyon, an offshoot of Tsegi Canyon, just west of Kayenta Arizona. The area has several well preserved Ancestral Pueblo ruins inside large overhangs along the canyon walls. Betatakin Ruin at Navajo NM is one of these. There is a view from near the headquarters at the top of the canyon, but the best views come from a half-day hike led by a guide down into the canyon and up into the ruin itself. The opportunity to see a site like this up close and with a knowledgeable person was a unique experience.
